About Me
Immediately after completing my schooling in Port Elizabeth, I embarked on my psychology studies and fell in love with the discipline from the word go. I obtained my BPsych (Counselling) and MA (Counselling Psych), both cum laude, from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) in Port Elizabeth.
I conducted my first thesis in the area of adopted child-parent attachments and completed my initial internship at a special needs school.
During my postgraduate studies, I worked with children and adults at the NMMU Community Psychology Clinic and my research focused on developmental and scholastic assessment in a special needs population of children. I was then placed at two of the university’s Student Counselling and Career Centres where I worked with young adults.
The next few years saw me moving to Cape Town and becoming involved in a variety of related activities with a focus on counselling, supervising and lecturing in the higher education sector. The desire to get back into the school environment was very strong and after a few years of working in tertiary education, I made the move back to working with children and their families as the psychologist at two of the United Herzlia Schools, Weizmann Primary and then Alon Ashel Pre-Primary.
While still working at Herzlia, I embarked on a small private practice and as of the end of 2019, I left Herzlia to focus on my private clients. I also continued my work in higher education in the form of lecturing, supervision, academic material development, and the like.
In 2021, when the pandemic hit, I started working less with young children and more with older adolescents, university students and young adults. While I initially went into psychology to work with young children, I found myself drawn to this older population and now work almost exclusively with them. Towards the end of 2021, I made alterations to my home to allow me to work from home and I now have a home-based practice, with a separate, private entrance for my clients.
On a more personal note, I have been married for a decade and have two young children aged 6 and 2.
I enjoy nothing more than being with loved ones, particularly outside, enjoying the beautiful city I now call home. In my spare time, you are likely to find me reading a good psychological thriller, enjoying a meal at a restaurant or going for a walk. Oh, and some may say I drink too much coffee and have a problem saying no to chocolate.
